What do we need to do to make these goals a reality?

  • Well designed and connected public places.
  • A broad range of entertainment and leisure opportunities.
  • A creative city that provides artistic and cultural opportunities.
  • Accessible parks, open space and recreation facilities catering to all ages and cultures.

Purchase the old dilapidated buildings opposite East Hill Station and turn them into an arts centre with cafe and bookshops.

This should be done on an LGA-wide basis. Council should investigate using vacant retail/commercial space for young or upcoming artists and creative professionals in an agreement with Landowners and the community until such space is leased. A similar scheme operates in Newcastle.

Free WiFi should also be provided in the Bankstown City Centre.

Council's town centre improvement programs are ordinary and do not characterise centres or provide quality public domain enhancements. The urban design quality should be improved.

Local pools should become leisure centres with multi-sports facilities and gyms with affordable membership options for LGA residents.

Promote & support upcoming musicians by utilising the ampitheatre at Flinders Slope. This would also provide free weekend entertainment for families.

A kayaking or canoe club established along the Georges River to cater for recreational paddlers. This would have a low impact on the environment. Perhaps one of our local clubs would sponsor/ support this group?
