What do we need to do to make the following goals a reality?

  • A clean, safe, well maintained and attractive city.
  • A city that protects and enhances its heritage.
  • A harmonious, inclusive and welcoming city.
  • A cosmopolitan and dynamic City with a vibrant CBD.
  • Residents that know their neighbours and are involved in their community.

1. Regular town centre street cleaning to be maintained by Council.

2. Council to provide a local heritage library and museum (possible incorporated into the proposed Bankstown Library at Town Hall)which provides historical records, artifacts and sessions on local history.

3. Provide incentives through planning controls for heritage conservation.

4.Make use of public space for major events: Such as using Paul Keating Park to screen Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL matches or other key sporting events.

5. Place flag poles around the Bankstown City Centre (like Burwood, Parramatta and Sydney CBDs) with flags of major events, Council logos, or local sporting teams at finals time.

6. Create a core CBD spine (such as Chapel Road North and South) and encourage highly active uses along this frontage - such as outdoor dining, bars, late night trading shops etc.

7. Council should work with owners of vacant properties in town centres to provide space for local artists and other creative professionals whilst properties are unoccupied.

8. Council should reduce red tape involved in people from the general community for hiring of public parks to encourage regular community use for informal sports etc.

Bankstown should become sydneys third CBD. Numerous High rise commercial buildings should be built to attract major businesses. But bankstown should still maintain its natural charm. Whats lacking in bankstown is a good shopping centre, and a main street. Bankstown will look very attractive with an artificial lake maybe extend the salt pan creek?

I agree with other comments Bankstown needs to be clean and safe. Regular cleaning by Council staff of the Old Town Plaza area, as this is often the first thing visitors see when they leave the station. Something desperately needs to be done about the Ibis, that mess up the walkways, it is really off putting to have to watch where you walk rather than beable to take in the area, outside the Police Station on Marion Street and the outdoor area of marion Street car park is awful to say the least.Use the Town Hall for a Library, keep the city beautiful, friendly and safe. Bankstown really is a nice place to live.

Smoking in public places is a problem, especially at bus stops, and in the plaza. This is not only unpleasant but also a public health problem from being exposed to passive smoke. Please ban smoking in all public transport waiting areas and all pedestrian malls.
