Revesby-Padstow Local Area Plan

Revesby-Padstow Local Area Plan

This consultation has concluded.

Bankstown City Council is preparing a Local Area Plan for the Revesby and Padstow area.

The purpose of the Local Area Plan is to guide the future growth of the area including future development options for the Revesby and Padstow town centres. These options will reflect the need to accommodate dwelling and employment targets identified by the NSW Government for the whole of the Bankstown Council area. The Plan will also aim to improve open space and community facilities, and address traffic and parking issues.

The NSW Metropolitan Strategy is the State Government's plan for managing the growth of Sydney to 2031. This document states that the Bankstown Council area will have 22,000 new dwellings by 2031.

Future growth in the Bankstown area will primarily occur in the Bankstown CBD and town centres, including Revesby, Padstow, Chester Hill, Yagoona, Greenacre and others. This growth aims to benefit the community by:

  • Enlivening town centres and stimulate commercial activity;
  • Supporting rail infrastructure and other investment; and
  • Ensuring the surrounding areas retain their low density character.

The suburbs of Revesby and Padstow are expected to grow over the next 20 years. Population forecasts suggest that Padstow will grow from 15,913 to 18,930 by 2031, and Revesby will grow from 13,664 to 15,886.

Council is proposing that:

  • Revesby will become the main 'town centre' in the southern area of Bankstown. Revesby will be a transport hub with an active retail centre to support development.
  • Padstow will provide a range of services and facilities to support local needs. Future development will in general retain the current village atmosphere.
  • Current dwelling targets will be increased to support the forecast growth in Revesby and Padstow.

Council provides the residents of Revesby and Padstow with a number of facilities and community services, such as senior citizens programs, meals on wheels, child care services and others. Council also needs to plan for future population needs. For example, over the next 20 years, there is likely to be an increase in both youth, families and the aged population (over 60 year olds).

An effective transport system is essential for the sustainable growth of the Padstow and Revesby communities. An integrated transport system includes access to private transport (e.g. cars), public transport (e.g. buses, trains) and active transport (e.g. bicycles, pedestrians). Revesby and Padstow are comparatively well served by public transport. Revesby Train Station was upgraded recently and Padstow is located on a regional bus corridor.

The Local Area Plan will aim to provide the future population with sufficient quality open space. This can be done by acquiring additional lands for open space use, or by managing existing areas more effectively.
